GlowWell™: Where Hotel Guest Charging Meets Thoughtful Lighting
When designing a hotel guestroom, brands and designers have no shortage of options when it comes to lighting. Bedside lamps, sconces, reading lights, under-bed lighting, and integrated headboard lighting all play a role in shaping the guest experience.
With select configurations of Terminal 1, Nonstop is introducing GlowWell™ — a new approach to guestroom lighting that integrates purposeful illumination directly into the bedside charging platform.
GlowWell™ started with a simple question: what does the guest actually experience in the room at night?
In an unfamiliar space, even something as simple as getting out of bed, finding the restroom, or reaching for a glass of water can mean turning on a bedside lamp or overhead light and disrupting sleep. GlowWell™ was designed around those moments, providing soft, intuitive illumination exactly where guests need it.
There is also growing research behind the role lighting can play in preparing the body for sleep. Light is one of the primary environmental signals regulating the body's sleep-wake cycle, and both the National Institutes of Health and the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) recommend reducing light exposure as bedtime approaches. Harvard’s Healthy Buildings Program goes a step further, recommending lower-intensity, warmer or blue-depleted light in the evening to help create an environment more conducive to sleep.
Rather than treating lighting as another feature or another item on the specification sheet, GlowWell™ makes it part of the bedside experience. Integrated directly into Terminal 1, the subtle light ring supports multiple guest needs through different modes and intensities:
Nightlight Mode
Provides soft, continuous illumination throughout the night without the harshness of turning on a bedside lamp or overhead fixture. Ideal for guests who prefer a low level of light while sleeping.
Wayfinding Mode
Provides subtle illumination to help guests safely navigate an unfamiliar room at night — whether heading to the restroom, checking on children, or simply moving around the space — while minimizing sleep disruption.
Ambient Lighting
Creates a warm bedside glow that adds another layer of depth and atmosphere to the guestroom design, enhancing the space without competing with the room's primary lighting.
